I propose the common name, 'ciphertag' for this cryptologer emblem:

I refer to the cryptologer symbol shown above as the 'ciphertag'. It
is similar to the hashtag with three each of horizontal and vertical
lines forming a grid of sixteen squares. I thought of calling this
emblem by the name, 'hushtag' since it represents secrets but
'hushtag' is nearly homophonic to 'hashtag' and use of it could cause
misunderstanding.

This grid is sometimes used as a symbol for cryptology. I view it
as the chief emblem of the clandestine cryptologer. If all
cryptologers were an army this would be the base emblem for deriving
brass rank patches. Different values and shapes in different positions
would indicate rank. In the army of cryptologers the five-tag general
would be the equivalent of the five-star general. The top brass would
wear a brass ciphertag pin.

The ciphertag consists of three vertical bars and three horizontal
bars. The three horizontal bars indicate mathematical equivalence or
identity and the three vertical bars indicate binary relation. If
interpreted this way the symbol indicates a N-ary group relation or
binary identity relationship between a ciphertext and its key and
plaintext. By this happenstance the two mathematical triple bar
symbols together indicate a matrix or cryptogram. And many
cryptograms are done in grids so the ciphertag looks like a
cryptograph.

It seems that in mathematics this particular symbol has no 'official'
or 'beknighted' name. It might be referred to as a square grid, a
graph, or a matrix. It might be referred to as an equivalence
relation operator. As I could not find an established emblematic
designation for it I brainstormed some possible names before choosing
'ciphertag' from among the potential names. Here are some of the
alternative potential names I brainstormed for the ciphertag emblem:

bioctogram bioctograph checkerag
checkergram checkergraph checktag
chesstag ciphermesh cryptag
cybertag dioctag dioctogram
dioctograph dioctohash graphtag
gridtag hexadecigram hexadecigraph
hexarosagon hexastrograph hexatag
hexatetragon hexathorpe hextag
mashtag meshtag mystigram
mystigraph octohash orthohexagram
orthohexagraph orthothorpe quiltagraph
hexarad quiltogram rosagon
rosagraph subrosagon subrosagraph
triastrograph trisectogram tritetragon

Of these and other names, 'ciphertag' tasted mentally and phonetically
like mathematical sugar and lexical honey. Some of the other names
sound silly and look hard to pronounce or remember. Since billions of
souls already know the venerable 'hashtag' adding one more 'tag'
symbol to the digital lexicon should not tend to confusion.

The ciphertag unicode symbol is unicode character code U+2A69.
Graphical illustration follows below. This article contains non-ascii
unicode characters below this point. ===>
